__Calendar Language:__

SOL 1.11 The student will use calendar language appropriately (e.g., names of the months, today, yesterday, next week, last week).

**Description:**The student will watch a video and play a calendar game to understand calendar language. Students record events and addition problems solved during the game. Students also watch a YouTube video.

**Materials:**

Calendar Worksheet.

5 dice

12 month Calendar

Calendar Game Sheet.

Internet access to Youtube

**Directions:**1. Watch the Video above about calendars. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJzCMdihQbM)

2. Go to the class calendar and fill out the "Calendar" Worksheet.

3. Then move onto the calendar game.

4. Pick any month of the year from the calendar. Write down on your game sheet what month you choose.

5. Roll the between 2 and 5 dice. ( You choose how many dice you want to roll.) If your sum goes over the number of days in the month you lose a turn. Choose carefully.

6. Add up the sum of the rolled dice on the Calendar Game Sheet. (show your work on the game sheet)

7. Once the sum is solved find the number that represents the sum on the calendar. Record the day of the week next to the sum and include if it lands on a holiday on your Calendar Game Sheet.

8. Each Day you cross off is worth 1 point.

9. If the sum lands on a Friday or Sunday you get 2 points

10. If the sum lands on a day that is a holiday you get 5 points.

__If you roll 5 dice and your number goes over the of days in that month then you lose a turn__.12. Each player gets 10 turns. After 10 turns the person with the most points wins.

**Assessment:**Formative-Class calendar worksheet

Summative: Students turn in Calendar Game sheet with work shown on it.
